through. it went through this week. the merger between u.s. airways and the bankrupt american airlines, the newly formed carrier will be the world's largest, but it has some customers worried about possible fare increases. ali velshi explains what it means for fliers. >> if regulators allow it, u.s. airways is going to take over a bankrupt american airlines creating the world's biggest airline in the process. the newly merged company will keep the american airlines name. and while the deal is probably good for investors, passengers worry that airfares will shoot up as competition disappears. now, i talked to the ceos of both companies when they announced the merger. and they said passengers will not see fare hikes. >> we're going to take two airlines highly complementary, to the same number of places, which is actually good for the consumers of both airlines. there won't be a reduction in supply, so therefore no reason to believe there would be an increase in pricing. >> so why would we take the ceo's word for it? take a look at this. prices for an average domestic economy airfare have

this nuclear test. we're getting this information from the u.s. geological survey which reported a seismic disturbance in north korea. the seismic event was centered near the side of pyeoongyangpyoo previous tests. officials have confirmed seismic activity in north korea. south korea says it detected what it called an artificial earthquake north of its border. the tremor, though, was different from what you might consider to be a normal earthquake. no further information at this stage is known. there's no official confirmation coming from anyone, least of all from pyongyang. north korea as we've been telling you, widely expecting to carry out this nuclear test any day now. pyongyang is expecting to stage a high intensity -- we have anna koran standing by in seoul, south korea, we also have alex in tokyo. let's go to anna koran, who is in seoul for us right now. anna, you're on military maneuvers just a few days ago, with the south koreans and u.s. military there. there is a great deal of preparation in south korea for this event. essentially, given what's happened, what can the south korea

discharged from the u.s. navy reserve earlier this year. in fact, just a short time ago, after serving in several overseas jobs. basically as a security officer. he was a lieutenant. he had weapons training in the navy. but not a commando, not a navy s.e.a.l., this was basic security work. nonetheless, he had two awards critically. the rifle marksman ribbon, and the pistol expert medal. this meant he had some qualifications in shooting at some expert level at particular distances or ranges. i think, though, very clear we should also understand that he had expertise through his service as a police officer. many people, many police officers serve in the military reserve, and they have a lot of weapons expertise due to all of that. still, very concerning, obviously, because of his background. >> were you able to learn anything about did the military have any information on his mental health? >> reporter: well, this would be a matter of privacy concerns. but at the moment, they wouldn't publicly release that. at the moment, very preliminary, there is no indication of that, because he was h

, according to the u.s. coast guard they're probably less than 50 miles away from mobile right now. that might sound pretty close, but it's probably going to feel like an eternity before they get here. there was a flurry of activity last night with helicopters delivering new supplies to the ship and some new generators, so that sort of implies that they might have some means to have more electricity on board and everyone to have perhaps more food and more water before they get here. but once they do arrive here, that's when things are going to start moving relatively quickly for the 3100 passengers on board. here the plans have already been made to have buses waiting for them to take them back to their cars in galveston, texas, so they can drive right home tonight if they want to or they can take them to a hotel where you can bet there will be plenty of people anxious to get to that first hot shower they have had in quite some time. you think about this, soledad, this ship was supposed to arrive in galveston, texas, on sunday. they're now 500 miles off course and five days overdue. >> or they

it still looks big. of course, it is stuck in dock now. a team of investigators with the u.s. coast guard, national transportation safety board will go on with their look at what went wrong with this ship. of course, they're doing this as part of an international agreement. this is a bohemian-flagged vessel. technically, they are the ones who will issue a final report. meantime, u.s. coast guard has already begun its investigation earlier in the week by looking at schematics of the ship while it was still out at sea. of course, they are look taking a close look at the engine. they've spoken to a number of passengers before they even got off the ship, before they were scattered to the four winds. of course, they'll be looking at procedures on board and looking at, for example, something called a voyage data recorder, which records, among other things, all the conversations that took place on the bridge. they'll also be looking at procedures that took place after that fire hit the engine. the coast guard says this investigation could take a year. >> passengers did report that on previous cr
